Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:ProtectedPages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading of article protection, upload protection, or create protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Repeated vandalism, mostly IP but sometimes by newly registered users. Minimal constructive edits from IP users. It's also an ongoing controversial, contentious topic, which puts the article at a more strict encyclopedic standard. In addition, the topic is high-profile with various political views involved in the current events, which could potentially conflicting with the neutrality of the article, if anyone can edit it. Requesting indefinite semi-protection. Pradedovići (talk) 16:00, 14 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Please enforce WP:CT/EE. IanDBeacon (talk) 16:25, 14 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Could you clarify what you mean by this? Pradedovići (talk) 20:52, 14 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Pradedovići: Eastern Europe and the Balkans are considered a contentious topic, where administrators can impose special rules and restrictions on both editors and pages. IanDBeacon, I think that administrators can recognise which areas are contentious topics and shouldn't feel obliged to use the procedure when normal protections would work. Sdrqaz (talk) 14:37, 15 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am pretty free with adding protection but I don't feel comfortable using WP:ECP without a reason other than it can be used. I see only two recent reverts and they were fairly innocent edits to add an external link to a political group, presumably involved in the protests. Johnuniq (talk) 04:29, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. 🌙Eclipse (she/they/all neostalkedits) 22:36, 15 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: People keep putting the title "New York City" as a title of a film in the fall of 2026. This is clearly fake. Georgia guy (talk) 23:21, 15 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent disruptive editing. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 23:22, 15 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Vandalism resumed within a month of the previous protection expiring and has been ramping up recently. Skywatcher68 (talk) 00:16, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: IP death vandalism x3 recently. Semi x1m should suffice. Jclemens (talk) 00:49, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

User(s) blocked: 2804:1b3:9143:cf23::/64 (talk · contribs) blocked by Queen of Hearts. Favonian (talk) 11:59, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Arbitration enforcement – ARBPIA. Longhornsg (talk) 00:58, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content. Donnowin1 (talk) 01:32, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Frequent unsourced edits by a sock with a probable conflict of interest. Insanityclown1 (talk) 02:26, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protection should squash this problem. Insanityclown1 (talk) 02:43, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
User(s) blocked. See WP:Sockpuppet investigations/Ania11341. If more socks show up, they can be submitted for termination. Favonian (talk) 11:37, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Target of habitual vandal who edits over IP's. Vandal has a very clear MO of editing children's animation articles to add inaccurate information, outlandish plot summaries, and hypothetical crossovers between series that they enjoy. This user has recently made "The Owl & Co." a target. Their most recent edit consisting primarily of copy vios from IMDB and a falsified crossover with another series of interest stayed up for two weeks before I reverted it. Due to the frequency of targeting the article and the previous success with keeping edits live, I think this article should be protected. Thebirdlover (talk) 04:48, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – The IP in question (86.9.53.237) received a final warning earlier today, but actually hasn't edited since March 13. If they resurface, they should be reported to WP:ANI. Favonian (talk) 11:56, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – ongoing IP vandalism/false information (esp. player names) (likely IP sock). Wikipedialuva (talk) 05:04, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Constant addition of poorly sourced, promotional WP:SPAM and WP:PUFFERY by a /64 IP address. They have been trying to change the page into an WP:ADMASQ and have not listened to or responded to any warnings. cyberdog958Talk 05:32, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Since at least 2023 IPs have been adding the same content dozens of times about a YouTuber with links to their YouTube channel and Twitter. [1] Also frequent problems with adding of unsorced or poorly sourced content Moribundum (talk) 07:42, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Arbitration enforcement – Relevant to WP:ARBPIA. Thanks in advance!. Smallangryplanet (talk) 09:47, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – Massive edit warring has presumed just a month after the last full lock. I request another full lock for a period of around four weeks, and to revert to the status quo ante version [2]. Thanks. Austronesier (talk) 10:18, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Full protection: Edit-warring / content dispute. Left guide (talk) 10:53, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Problematic IP-edits since March 5. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 12:59, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP keep removing talk page sections. Vestrian24Bio 13:07, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – IP addresses persistently using talk page as forum since 2020. dotXK 13:17, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – IPs keep changing the player's nationality in the short description, this has been going on for a long time. Annh07 (talk) 13:37, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. -- Least Action (talk) 14:30, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent vandalism by at least two IPs who keeps inserting an Indian name for a Southeast Asian tournament. Probably the same user using a roaming IP service provider. Hariboneagle927 (talk) 14:54, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection:

Reason: putting unsourced non-notable entries to the list for PR purposes. Other articles include Installation (computer programs), Nullsoft, Windows Installer 141.136.76.43 (talk) 15:08, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
